Carpet Care Guide
To help prolong the life of your carpet it is important to know how to handle unwanted stains or damage that may occur. Here are some carpet care tips:
Entrance Mats
Use walk off mats at all entrances: Place mats outside your home to encourage guests to wipe their feet as they enter your home. Remember to clean mats regularly so they don't become sources of soil themselves.
Clean Regularly
Vacuum often, dirt and sand will damage your carpet. This damage will cause your carpet to stain more easily. A good quality vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter is essential in prolonging the life of your carpet. An inexpensive machine can remove surface dirt but will not effectively remove hidden dirt.
Take off your shoes
Reduce shoe traffic on your carpet whenever possible. Suggest to family members that they take off their shoes when entering the house.
Furniture
Rearrange your furniture regularly so traffic areas are changed. When moving heavy wheeled furniture prevent damage by placing heavy cardboard or plywood between the wheels and the carpet. Put coasters intended for use with carpet under the legs of tables, chairs, and other furniture to help distribute the weight and prevent mashing the pile
Keep other floors clean
Keep kitchen floors clean - grease and oil can be tracked onto carpets
Spills
Make sure to clean spills immediately, doing so will minimise damage to your carpet.
Professional Cleaning
No matter how careful you are with your carpet accidents can happen that will require professional cleaning. The Carpet Centre recommends Advance Cleaners. We recommend you consider having your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year.
